Transformational Counseling
A note from Dr. Ewing, Director of the Marriage Family Therapy Program and Coordinator of Integrative Care:
An understanding that our stories, beliefs, relationships, and culture influence our behavior and biology is the foundation for the Family Therapy Program and our collaboration with patients and health care providers at CHWB.
My investment in the integrative approach to health and wellness led me to develop CHWB’s Marriage and Family Therapy Intern Residency program at CHWB. My own journey to understanding my health and studying mind-body wellness started as a child when I noticed how differently my body responded depending on the ways people spoke to me, the beliefs I held about myself and others, and various stories about my life and circumstances. I made connections between my feelings of anxiousness, comfort, anger, or peace and how I experienced the world around me. These early experiences helped to shape the beliefs and practices that I consider to be at the heart of my integrative work.
The therapeutic practice which most informs our work is referred to as Narrative Therapy. Narrative Therapy originated with Michael White in Australia, and works from a premise that people use narratives (stories) to organize their experiences and to create meaning about their lives. Our identities are formed in these narratives, and our dominant narratives shape who we are, inform our daily practices of living, and influence our behavior and biology. Understanding these narratives is central to CHANGE.
While dominant narratives are at times helpful, they can also be debilitating or oppressive when they limit new learning and restrict our ideas of whom we can become. However, alternative stories are also present in our lives. Although their importance may not yet be recognized or supported, these alternative stories have the potential to transport us. Re-authoring our dominant and alternative narratives empowers us to develop new ways of living… ways that feel healthier, more congruent with our bodies and mind, and more consistent with what we hope for in our lives.
We want to help you re-author your life and health in ways that generate possibilities for you, your family, and your community.
In order to assist you in feeling empowered in your healthcare and wellness, we commit to collaborating with you and your team of providers. Come check us out!

Comprehensive, Supportive, and Empowering Care
Our goal at the Center for Health and Wellbeing is to care for people from a holistic perspective. We believe that your physical health and mental well being are interrelated and we want to assist you in being in balance and in harmony with these different aspects of your life.
We offer counseling services for individuals, couples, children, and families. Day, evening, and weekend appointments are available. Additionally, we offer ongoing wellness support groups addressing topics such as stress management and chronic health conditions. Counseling services are covered by most insurance plans.
A therapy consult with a member of our MFT team may involve discussions about life stressors, life transitions, spirituality, relationship difficulties, adjustments to physical and health dynamics, and the changes you desire to make. Your therapy will consider the context of your life (mental, physical, and spiritual) which we believe will allow you to experience your care as comprehensive, supportive, and empowering.
